UAE has not recorded a single Covid-19 related death in past eight days. Standing at 0.28 per cent, the UAE has one of world’s lowest death rates from Covid-19.
Almost 100 per cent of eligible UAE residents have received at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine, with almost 90 per cent being fully vaccinated.
This has led to daily cases being recorded at an all-time low since the peak of pandemic. The number of daily infections has dropped below the 100-markon October 17 for the first time in 565 days. Since October 21, new Covid-19 cases has remained below 100, with November 23, recording 70 cases.
The UAE managed to beat Covid-19 by adopting a three-way strategy:
· Multiple vaccines are available for free at centres across the UAE.
· A robust Covid testing strategy that helps the country’s health authorities identify cases quickly, also asymptomatic ones. Till date, over 99 million PCR tests have been conducted in the country.
· UAE has also adopted breakthrough Covid treatment methods. For instance, Abu Dhabi was the first global destination to receive the Sotrovimab medicine in June. Till date, over 23,000 high-risk patients have received this medication.
The UAE leadership proactively took drastic measures to control the pandemic, like shutting schools and mosques, implementing work from home for employees, borders closed and imposing movement restrictions. These restrictions are now lifted. 100 per cent students have returned to the campus and residents are travelling once again.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, recently said that the worst of pandemic is over. “The UAE worked as one team during the pandemic, making the country among the best globally in the fight against Covid-19,” he had tweeted in August.
His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, acknowledged the challenges due to virus in the past few months. “However, the UAE was one of the first countries to emerge from the crisis, at a time when some faced great difficulties," he said.
