On the occasion of World Children's Day on November 20, Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC), part of Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA), has expanded and renovated its Paediatric Emergency Department. According to Dr Nawal Al Kaabi, Chief Medical Officer at SKMC, said the renovation has been made to provide exceptional care to children in a safe and calming environment.
“With more than half our child admissions coming through the Emergency Department and keeping in mind the age of our patients, we not only wanted to provide exceptional care but also provide children with a safe and calming environment," Al Kaabi said.
Some of the child-friendly renovations include the addition of a dedicated entrance to the department as well as lining the walls with special artworks for a warm welcome for children.
With more than 20 individuals rooms, 11 board-certified paediatricians and paediatric emergency physicians, 16 specialised registered nurses, as well as various health professionals, administrators and patients experience teams, SKMC’s Paediatric Emergency Department is one of the largest in the UAE. It has the capacity to provide crucial care for infants, children and teenagers up to the age of 16.
The department takes care of over 60,000 children every year. With 24/7 available services, the department is constantly working towards helping youngsters suffering from any serious or life-threatening illness or injury.
