UAE witnesses significant decline in new COVID-19 infections: Govt

Dr. Taher Al Ameri, Official Spokesperson of the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority (NCEMA), recently addressed a COVID-19 media briefing of the UAE government to provide information related to the developments in the ongoing fight against the pandemic in the country.

Addressing the briefing, he noted that UAE is witnessing a decline in the number of COVID-19 infections and deaths in recent weeks, thanks to the coordination and harmony between relevant authorities in containing the pandemic. These efforts are being taken in line with the vision and directions of the UAE’s leadership to establish a strategic balance between all national sectors, particularly in the fight against COVID-19.

Dr. Al Ameri hailed the UAE's proactive response to the COVID-19 crisis with professionalism and in compliance with international indicators. The UAE has emerged as one of the most successful models in addressing the COVID-19 pandemic along with continuous local and international humanitarian initiatives for community welfare.

"The successful implementation of the country’s national strategic objectives is due to the effective roles and responsibilities of all sectors, and is the outcome of the country's proactive plans and comprehensive strategies aimed at containing the pandemic," the official added.

UAE's authorities ensured continuous monitoring of the pandemic situation locally and internationally. They are ensuring constant assessment of the situation to implement updated safety measures and achieve recovery from the pandemic crisis.

"The UAE Government is continuing to update its protocols and procedures to protect the community’s health and safety," he underlined.

The UAE also announced the required protocols for the setting up of Iftar tents during the Holy Month of Ramadan 2022. These measures have been announced in accordance with the current developments in the pandemic situation and the country's strategy to protect the community's health and safety.

As per the protocols, Iftar tents are required to hold prior permits from the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC). Furthermore, local emergency, crisis and disaster management teams will be set up in every emirate to approve the establishment, numbers and location of Iftar tents.

He also underlined that tents must be designed to ensure proper air ventilation or conditioning to protect the health and wellbeing of visitors during high temperature. Tents are also required to comply with relevant safety and prevention standards with people maintaining safe distance of one metre, wearing face masks and regularly sanitising their hands. Security personnel or volunteers must be present at tents to organise entry and exit activities to avoid overcrowding at the premise.

The protocols also stipulate tents to open for two hours before Iftar and the green pass system will be implemented.

The NCEMA official further noted that disposable cups, napkins and plates will be used for maximum safety of all community members. He also maintained that these measures are subject to updates according to the current developments in the pandemic situation in each emirate.

In conclusion, Al Ameri called on all community members to understand their social responsibility to protect the country's achievements against the pandemic crisis. He stressed the need for the public to coordinate with relevant authorities and comply with safety measures to ensure the wellbeing of the entire community during the Holy Month of Ramadan.
