Authorities in the UAE have called on all residents to perform necessary COVID-19 PCR testing before visiting extended family members. It is particularly important while visiting the elderly and those with chronic diseases to ensure the health and wellbeing of the family members.

While addressing a media briefing, Dr Nora Al Ghaiti, spokesperson of the UAE government, stated that periodic PCR testing will help in detecting the virus early and allowing the authorities to ensure contact tracing.

She added that relevant authorities are closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation as well as public compliance with the precautionary measures. These efforts are aimed at detecting any violations and behaviours that could negatively impact the health and safety of the community.

In addition, the official urged all community members to avoid spreading rumours and fake news. Relevant information related to COVID-19 must be passed around only after proper verification from official sources, she added.
