UAE sends third aid plane to Gaza Strip to fight COVID-19

The United Arab Emirates on Wednesday dispatched a third aid plane to Gaza Strip in a bid to help the Palestinian people combat the COVID-19 pandemic. In coordination with the Commission for Solidarity in Gaza, the UAE sent 14.4 metric tons of medical supplies and testing kits with the aim of assisting more than 14,000 healthcare professionals in their efforts to mitigate the impact of the pandemic crisis.

The UAE had sent its first shipment of medical aid and supplies to Gaza Strip in May in a bid to assist the brotherly Palestinian people in their fight against the global health crisis. Over the past eight months, the UAE has sent additional shipments of medical supplies that are totalling to 22 metric tons of aid to the support the health sector in Gaza Strip.

The UAE has taken these measures as part of its commitment to offer continuous support to the Palestinian people amid the global health crisis. Notably, the UAE has emerged as one of the largest donors to UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees) as it has provided over US$187 million from the year 2015 to 2020 to financially support various regions in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

To date, the UAE has contributed more than 1,675 metric tons of medical and food assistance to more than 120 countries as part of its humanitarian efforts. This aid has benefitted more 1.6 million healthcare professionals across various countries in the world in the process.
