UAE sends 30 tonnes of emergency medical and relief aid to Ukraine

The United Arab Emirates has sent an aid plane carrying 30 metric tonnes of emergency medical supplies to Ukraine as part of the ongoing relief efforts to assist needy civilians in the crisis-hit country.

The aid delivery has come in response to the international humanitarian appeal to protect and support displaced Ukrainians and refugees in neighbouring countries. So far, there are more than 1.2 million refugees due to the crisis.

The aircraft with emergency health aid landed in Lublin, Poland following which the supplies were handed over to the Ukrainian authorities in Poland. These supplies will further be transported to Ukraine to support the needs of displaced people.

Salem A. Al-Kaabi, the UAE‘s Ambassador to Ukraine, underlined that the aid support is a part of the UAE’s steadfast commitment to fulfilling essential humanitarian needs during conflicts involving civilians, especially women and children. The health aid and medical supplies will provide necessary assistance to people affected by the conflict.

He further stressed that the UAE's commitment to adopting a humanitarian approach towards the provision of emergency response and relief to people in need is a central principle of the UAE leadership to work for the health and wellbeing of people from all across the world during humanitarian situations.

"These values are a demonstration and extension of the approach laid down by the UAE’s Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, that is based on giving, tolerance and serving the whole of humanity without distinction or discrimination," he added.

At the same time, the UAE has announced a contribution of AED18.36 million (US$5 million) in response to the plea by the UN’s emergency appeal and Regional Response Plan for Ukrainian refugees. The donation is in line with the UAE’s commitment to the Principles of Humanitarian Solidarity in conflicts.
