A research team from UAE University has discovered that using two medications together can improve kidney function. The research team consists of Prof.
Suhail Al Salam, Sarah Sultan Al Zaabi, Javed Yasin, and Dr Loay Lubbad from the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, as well as Awwab Hammad and Maryam Mohammed Alfalasi from the UAEU College of Medicine and Health Sciences. The study was led by Prof. Fayez Hammad of the College of Medicine's, Department of Surgery.
The team has undertaken numerous studies on kidney illness over the course of two years. They came to the conclusion that both "Aliskiren" and "Sacubitril" have positive effects on renal disease.
For two years, the team has conducted trials in the College of Medicine and Health Sciences laboratories, testing scientific applications to analyse these drugs and their outcomes. The medications were first tested on rats in a lab setting. This eventually helped in facilitating human research.
