Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, will be leading the delegation of the United Arab Emirates during the 75th session of the UN General Assembly. He will be addressing the body virtually on September 29 during the General Debate.
Furthermore, the UAE will engage in discussions with UN officials, member states and other participants during the high-level week on the current state of multilateralism in the world, its challenges, and the way ahead.
While many discussions will focus on the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic and ways to combat it, the UAE will also highlight the need for identifying key areas of cooperation to address other global challenges including climate change, terrorism, inequality and nuclear proliferation.
Reiterating its strong commitment towards the need for global cooperation, the UAE has outlined seven objectives that will be leading its participation through the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
The UAE remains a firm advocate of results-driven multilateralism that serves all communities with the motive of tackling increasing global challenges. From providing crucial support to the global efforts against COVID-19 to furthering women empowerment, from promoting sustainability and transformation to addressing nuclear proliferation and countering terrorism and extremism, there can be many ways through which positive changes can be implemented in the multilateral system. The UAE will continue to be prioritise its efforts and time towards enacting these positive changes for the greater good of the community.
The UAE strongly believes in the significance of being proactive and prepared for future challenges. As the UAE's 50th-anniversary approaches, the leadership will continue with their efforts to promote innovation and creativity as key tools that will help in responding to all present and future challenges.
The seven focus point of UAE during the 75th session of the UN General Assembly are:
· Supporting regional stability in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA)
· Promoting tolerance, coexistence, and interfaith dialogue
· Working as a responsible global citizen – Helping the most vulnerable in response to COVID-19
· Addressing climate change – mitigation and adaptation
· Championing women’s empowerment
· Investing in the Sustainable Development Goals
· Promoting innovation and future preparedness
This year, the UN's high-level week will take place virtually in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. It is an annual gathering of world leaders representing the 193 UN member states where they discuss global challenges during a series of crucial meetings and sessions.
