In yet another humanitarian effort amid the global battle to curb the spread of Coronavirus pandemic, the United Arab Emirates on June 2 sent eight metric tonnes of medical supplies to Grozny city in Russia through an aid plane. The medical aid will provide assistance to approximately 8,000 medical professionals in their fight to contain the COVID-19 virus.
Responding to the humanitarian act, the UAE Ambassador to Russia, MaadhadHareb Jaber Alkhayeli, stated that the Emirates stands with Russia in its efforts to tackle the pandemic crisis through international cooperation and assistance.
"The delivery of aid represents the strong ties between our two nations, which have exerted all efforts to prioritize the health and wellbeing of our communities at every turn," the Ambassador said.
As of now, Russia's nationwide tally of Coronavirus infected cases has crossed 4,23,000, making it the world’s third-highest reported total. The COVID-19 death toll has crossed 5,000.
According to a statement released by the state news agency WAM, the UAE has provided over 683 metric tonnes of medical aid and other necessary supplies to 59 countries in need including Italy, Sudan, Congo, and the Gambia, etc in its global response to the pandemic crisis. The aid has supported more than 683,000 medical professionals and thousands of affected people across the world in the process.
