Amid the ongoing crisis in Lebanon, the UAE leadership has extended full-fledged assistance to the citizens of the country. Recently, Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemy, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation, stated that the UAE leadership has directed all possible support to the Lebanese citizen as they try to overcome the unprecedented impact of the Beirut port explosion that took place last Tuesday.
To date, the UAE government has provided 80 tonnes of medical and humanitarian assistance through over three flights to Lebanon in a bid to strengthen the efforts of healthcare professions who are working tirelessly to rescue those who suffered injuries from the blast. Lebanese healthcare sector is working in cooperation with international organizations such as the World Health Organizations, the International Federation of Red Cross, and Red Crescent Societies and Lebanese Red Cross, to facilitate swift aid response to all citizens in need.
These remarks came during the recently-held donor conference dedicated to assist the Lebanese citizens during the time crisis.
Reem Al Hashemy participated in the donor conference organized by the French Government, with the support of French President Emmanuel Macron and a number of heads of state and other international organizations.
Along with the cooperation of the United Nations, the conference was held virtually.
Speaking at the conference, Reem Al Hashemy said that the UAE asserts that to overcome the current crisis and its repercussions, it is important that all ports and airports should be put under the sole supervision of the Lebanese state. She added that the crisis calls for the activation of Security Council Resolution 1701 on disarmament to limit weapons to the Lebanese Armed Forces.
She further expressed UAE’s hope towards achieving success towards the goals of the conference in gaining required assistance, establishing a unified and transparent mechanism for the emergency humanitarian response to the Lebanese people, and focusing support on key sectors, noting that such relief efforts will be directed to the health, education, food, and shelter sectors in the country for the greater good of the community.
