While many countries are vying for a solution through a vaccine, stem cell treatment has been able to bring forth some promising results in the race for Covid-19 patients.
The UAE has been able to develop an innovative coronavirus stem-cell treatment. This, it is reported has been able to help some 5000 patients from the effects of COVID-19. This was confirmed by the Abu Dhabi Stem Cell Centre (ADSCC).
The treatment has been said to be more effective in treating Covid-19 patients suffering with Leukemia. Four such patients recovered under the same treatment that is now being called UAECell19. The success rate has been determined after ADSCC conducted more than 584,000 PCR tests.
According to wide reports, stem cell treatment is showing more promising results in Covid-19 infected patients whose lung functions became better after the treatment.
Of all the stem cell therapies touted for COVID‐19 treatment, mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) or MSC‐like derivatives have been the most promising in preclinical studies and clinical trials so far.
UAE became one of the few countries to offer stem cell treatment free of charge to all moderate-to-high risk COVID-19 patients in the country. Post the innumerable trials, researchers at ADSCC concluded that UAECell19 reduced the duration of hospitalisation from 22 days to just six, when compared to patients who had received standard treatment.
Further analyses revealed that patients treated with stem cells were 3.1 times more likely to recover in less than seven days than those treated with standard therapy, and 67 percent of the patients who received the stem cells treatment owed their recovery to the new treatment.
