UAE: Mohamed bin Zayed, Costa Rican President discuss bilateral ties, global COVID-19 battle

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and Costa Rica's President Carlos Alvarado Quesada on Wednesday held a telephonic conversation about the strategic bilateral relations that the two nations have been sharing for years. During the conversation, the two leaders also discussed regional and international issues of mutual interest between the UAE and Costa Rica.

Costa Rican PresidentQuesada extended thanks to Sheikh Mohamed for the continuous support of the UAE towards his country amid the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic. President Quesada thanked the UAE for providing essential medical supplies for boosting Costa Rica's medical capabilities to combat the pandemic and for repatriating Costa Rican citizens from Abu Dhabi. He further praised the UAE's contribution in the area of global medical innovation.

As per state news agency WAM, the two leaders also focused on the necessity of sustaining global food security and boosting international cooperation in investment and commercial domains in their conversation.

At the same time, Sheikh Mohamed stressed the need for international cooperation and solidarity among various countries across the world to overcome common challenges that affect all citizens.

This development has come days after the UAE had sent an aid plane carrying 9 metric tons of medical supplies and 10,000 testing kits to Costa Rica to support the country's efforts in combating the COVID-19 virus. Following the delivery on June 12, Costa Rican President Quesada had extended his deep thanks to Sheikh Mohamed for assisting the country to cope with the virus.
