A number of Al Hosn app users in the UAE spotted a sign on their app that looks like a crossed-out syringe. Authorities have affirmed that residents must not worry about the sign as it is not any cause for concern. Al Hosn is the official vaccine and COVID-19 testing registry of the UAE.
Taking to social media platforms of the app, Al Hosn development noted that the sign indicates a temporary vaccine exemption for people who recently recovered from COVID-19. Authorities added that till the time they are able to view the sign on their app profile, they will be able to avail of all benefits valid for a fully-vaccinated individual against COVID-19 in the UAE.
Al Hosn app developers posted a statement on social media noting that the icon has appeared on many user profiles. They explained that the sign automatically appears for users who tested positive for COVID-19 and recovered. This exempts them from having to take vaccinations for 90 days in accordance with the guidelines, adding that the requirements for such individuals will remain the same as vaccinated people.
“After 90 days have passed, you are allowed to take your COVID-19 vaccination. Therefore, when the icon appears, it means that a person who has recovered from COVID-19 is exempted and is not required to take any vaccinations for 90 days. After this, you can take your remaining COVID-19 vaccine [shots]. May everyone recover safely,” the app added on its social media post.
PCR validity
As per the updated protocols in the UAE, PCR testing validity differs for vaccinated individuals, people with official vaccine exemptions, and those who have not yet taken their COVID-19 vaccinations.
· For a vaccinated individual, a negative PCR test result is valid as a green pass for 14 days.
· For a person with an official vaccine exemption from a designated medical authority, the negative PCR test has a seven-day validity for a green pass.
· For unvaccinated individuals, negative PCR test is valid only for 48 hours for the status to remain green on the Al Hosn app.
As a result, users with a crossed-out syringe icon on their Al Hosn app have a prolonged validity for their green pass as they will be required to follow the same protocols as vaccinated individuals even if they are not fully vaccinated.
