Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD) came to the aid of hundreds of thousands of its customers and investors by providing digital services during the coronavirus pandemic. To avoid minimum contact among people, it provided the faculty of reservation system, wherein customers could make prior appointments or reach out to service centers contracted with the Department around Sharjah.
SEDD Chairman, Sultan Abdullah bin Hadda Al Suwaidi emphasised how it contributed in providing economic flexibility to Sharjah in the time of adversity. He said that it enabled SEDD to work in different circumstances, owing much to the country’s strong economic environment and continuous growth, which boosts the business sector and adds to gaining investments.
He added that amidst the pandemic, SEDD was quick to adapt to new business practices which also led to business sustainability. Al Suwaidi stressed that SEDD would continue to promote adopting of precautionary measures while conducting business, following the guidelines issued by the Government of Sharjah.
Warm reported that SEDD reached complete digital transformation in terms of its services as well as investment over the past years, with the help of an advanced digital structure which contributed to smoothing running of business even in the trying times. The digital platform enabled the Department to complete all transactions online and through service centers. Therefore, the total number of transactions completed during the pandemic from the beginning of March until now amounted to 233, 499, operates through the various service channels of the Department. About 92% of its total transactions were accomplished during the pandemic. Diversification of the Department and operating through previously contracted 14 service centers, helped it to continue working and even enabled it to expand its digital presence and turn its services into easily accessible ones across various cities and regions of the emirate.
