The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) announced on Thursday that Russia’s Covid-19 vaccine, Sputnik V, has been approved for emergency use. This makes Sputnik third vaccine approved for use in the UAE.

The decision is in line with UAE’s extensive efforts to ensure increased levels of prevention against the coronavirus and to protect health of all the citizens and residents of the UAE.

The UAE has conducted third phase of Sputnik’s clinical trials. It was developed by the Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology and the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.

Study results have shown that vaccine is effective in triggering a strong antibody response against the Covid-19 virus, its safe for use, and it is in accordance with international safety and effectiveness standards.
