PCR test in Abu Dhabi to now cost Dh65

The cost of getting a PCR test has been decreased further in Abu Dhabi. On Wednesday, the officials revealed that the PCR test will now cost Dh65 for an individual.

The Abu Dhabi Department of Health said that the nasal swab tests which previously used to cost Dh85 at Abu Dhabi’s healthcare clinics and screening centres will now be made available for a lower cost.

The department said, “Please note that the cost of Covid-19 (PCR) test is revised to be Dh65 for single run including collection and testing of the sample.” They also added that in case some people are taking the tests without any symptoms, then the cost of the test will be borne by the person only and not the facility.

Those who have covid-19 symptoms can only be benefited out of the insurance. Even the Abu Dhabi government employees, who have already received the vaccine shots, will have to take a monthly PCR test as a part of new rules.

Earlier this month the healthcare officials said that the PCR test should be done every 28 days after they have received the vaccines shots. Only those who can see a letter ‘E’ in their respective applications, will be able to get exemption from these regular tests. The letter will only be visible in the Al Hosn application when you have completed the circle of PCR tests.

For the government employees who have not been vaccinated must pay for the PCR tests every week, a step which was decided earlier by the UAE officials. People who have either not received vaccination or have received both doses of vaccination but have not completed the 28 day period are included in the rule.

The UAE has lowered the price many times since the outbreak of the coronavirus. At the start of the pandemic, PCR test in the UAE was Dh370 which was later on lowered to Dh250 in September last year. To increase the testing, the price was further reduced to Dh180 at a few clinics in Abu Dhabi while the government facilities offered the test for Dh150.

By the end of last year, the prices were further slashed to Dh85 and now it has been reduced to Dh65.
