Only 0.7% passengers to UAE tested COVID-19 positive: GCAA

The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GCAA) recently announced that more than 2.7 million COVID-19 PCR tests have been conducted on passengers arriving in the UAE since the resumption of fights. In a weekly COVID-19 briefing, a GCAA official stated that the infection rate has been detected at just 0.7 percent.

The official also maintained that all government-approved COVID-19 testing centers are working in accordance with the highest global standards. The official further added that severe penalties would be imposed on the testing center if the quality of services is compromised. The UAE authorities have worked with international agencies to design safe travel regulations for all passengers amid the COVID-19 pandemic, he said.

The official affirmed that the UAE has implemented all COVID-19 safety measures in accordance with the recommendations made by various concerned agencies, including the World Health Organisation (WHO). In this regard, UAE health authorities implemented necessary procedures such as pre-testing, PCR testing upon arrival in the country, and mandatory home or institutional quarantine to ensure the health and safety of all community members.

In addition to the safety measures, more than 70 percent of frontline professionals in the aviation sector have been vaccinated against COVID-19. The GCAA has also launched the world's first mobile center to perform civil aviation medical services.
