New development along the territory as the nurses who completed their fundamental graduation requirements will now be joining as the front line defenders against COVID-19 pandemic.
This decision was taken by The Ministry of Health and Prevention, MoHAPon the June 24, 2020 as a measure to increase the head count for the front line workers and medical help in these critical times.
It will all be under supervision of qualified nurses and till now 35 graduate Emirati nurses have been recruited and according to the sources, 10 more are to be joined. The collaboration included reviewing the current academic achievement for all courses attended by year two.
Dr. Sumaya Mohammed Al Blooshi, Director of Nursing at MoHAP, expressed her deepest gratuities for the collaboration of the Ministry of Education and Commission for Academic Accreditation and their commitment to serve the country and its first line of defence.
Apart from that, there have been virtual meetings conducted by MoHAP with the representatives from the local universities to understand and discuss the situation and decide the strategic steps required to support them. These included structured training on basics of infection control and prevention plus the use of personal protective equipment. Also, the discussion included provision of psychological support and remote counselling services to the students on the field.
The appointment of these nurses will cater them with certain benefits stating as enhancing the attractiveness of the nursing profession, provides scholarships for high school students of both genders, to study the Bachelor of Nursing within the state, sponsor tuition and housing fees, and commitment to provide a vacancy for immediate appointment after graduation.
