The National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) has announced the necessary safety protocols for the installation of Iftar tents during the Holy Month of Ramadan this year. In coordination with its main partners, the NCEMA said that the new measures are in line with the national strategy to maintain the health and safety of all community members.
The UAE leadership is working on resuming various public activities across the country after months of restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Relevant authorities are ensuring tireless efforts at the national level to achieve sustainable recovery and normalcy in the country.
According to the latest protocols, prior permits are required from the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) to set up Iftar tents during the Holy Month. NCEMA teams and local committees will be instituted in each emirate to approve the installation of these tents, setting the numbers of participants in each tents and determining their locations. All these measures will be taken in coordination with the ERC to ensure smooth operations during the period.
The protocols also underline the design of the Iftar tents in the form of a canopy that is open from all sides or air-conditioned. Furthermore, all participants are required to incorporate the required safety and protection systems in their tents to enhance maximum public security.
Local committees and teams of each emirate are allowed to determine the tent capacity. Participants are required to remain at least 1 metre apart. Organisers must also ensure the provision of security guards or volunteers to operate the entry and exit process. All entrances and exits must have posters specifying the safety protocols. At the same time, people are encouraged to avoid handshakes during greetings at the tents.
The opening timing of the Iftar tents has been set for two hours before the time of Iftar (Maghrib call to prayer) with the aim of avoiding any congestion.
In addition, the Green Pass system is mandatory for visitors in accordance with the safety rules in place by each Emirati authority.
Organisers or personnel of the Iftar tents are required to provide masks and sterilisation tools to visitors. They must also direct people to comply with the necessary precautionary and preventive measures, including mask-wearing, physical distancing, and regular hand sterilisation.
Protocols also recommend the use of disposable table covers, plates, cups and spoons for each individual to enhance the safety and wellbeing of visitors. People must also sit at least one meter apart on dining tables.
In conclusion, the NCEMA affirmed that these measures are subject to modification based on the global and local health situation. Furthermore, the Authority urged all community members to comply with the relevant COVID-19 pandemic countermeasures to boost the ongoing fight against the health crisis and promote rapid recovery of all sectors.
