Under the directives of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) recently sent a relief aircraft to Sudan containing necessary aid to support those communities affected by floods in various states of the North African country. This initiative to provide humanitarian aid to flood-hit communities in Sudan is being followed by Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region, and Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC).
As per a report by the news agency WAM, the relief plane, that arrived in Khartoum on Monday, was accompanied by an ERC delegation. The aid plane contained large quantities of essential medical supplies, food packets, and shelter materials such as blankets, emergency tents and tarpaulins, along with sanitary materials for the welfare of the environment.
In Sudan, the ERC team will perform various humanitarian activities and relief measures on the ground while inspecting the impact of the heavy floods on thousands of Sudanese people in almost 16 states. In the next phase of the aid in the ERC programme, the team will be briefed and prepared for other important necessities of the Sudanese population amid the crisis.
Ahead of this initiative, the ERC carried out vigorous communications with Sudanese officials to understand the impact of the devastating floods on the population. This communication mainly focused on food, shelter and medical requirements of the people.
Speaking about the initiative, Dr. Ateeq Mohammed Al Falahi, Secretary-General of the ERC, stated that directives of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed and the follow-up of Sheikh Hamdan have led to the establishment of strong humanitarian bonds and solidarity with Sudan.
The humanitarian relief operations in Sudan are carried out by the ERC in a bid to carry forward the legacy of the UAE and its leadership which aims to support and provide assistance to those communities affected by humanitarian crises and natural catastrophes across the world. Dr. Al Falahi also highlighted that ERC is performing these initiatives with the objective to make a difference in the ongoing relief efforts in a bid to improve the conditions of the affected people.
