The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) recently sent a land aid convoy containing 22 tonnes of medical supplies and medications to Damascus, capital of Syria, to support the country in its fight against the Coronavirus pandemic. The medical aid has been sent under the directives of Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent, and in coordination with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent.
In line with the UAE's humanitarian efforts to limit the spread of COVID-19 across the world, the ERC dispatched the medical aid to support the Syrian medical sector in adopting necessary preventive and precautionary measures against the pandemic. The aid is aimed at helping thousands of healthcare workers in the country as they work at the frontline to protect the people from the disease.
Responding to the aid delivery, Dr. Mohammed Ateeq Al Falahi, Secretary-General of the ERC, said that the convoy was sent as part of the UAE's global initiatives aimed at containing the spread of Coronavirus. He also highlighted the UAE has undertaken several such initiatives to help countries across the world in limiting the spread of the virus and mitigating the impact of the pandemic. A number of initiatives taken by the ERC also helped in boosting the capacities of the medical staff globally.
Al Falahi added that the UAE has been helping friendly nations to overcome the ongoing health crisis and strengthening their medical capabilities to address the repercussions of the pandemic.
The UAE dispatched aid convoy containing basic medical materials to Syria in a bid to enhance their preventive measures to combat the pandemic. Dr. Al Falahi further stated that this is the fourth aid shipment of medical supplies to Syria aimed at helping the healthcare professionals in performing their duties and reinforcing their efforts to fight the pandemic in the country.
"The aid convoy was dispatched as part of the UAE’s global response to counter the COVID-19 pandemic," said Dr. Al Falahi.
