ERC distributes food aid, Covid-19 vaccines in Syria

Coronavirus pandemic has been hard on certain countries more than the others. Syria is one such country that was facing a lack of resources and a vulnerable state of community survival rate as it is and the covid-19 virus made the situation worse.

The United Arab Emirates has been extending a helping hand for every vulnerable society, especially during the pandemic so that they have some relief while battling the dreaded virus attack. Under its humanitarian framework, the UAE’s Emirates Red Crescent has coordinated with the Syrian Red Crescent organization to send a medical aid shipment to the country. The shipment contains Covid-18 vaccine doses for Syrian people.

The items in the shipment will aim at helping the frontline workers, elderly people, and those with chronic diseases. For countries like Syria, the refugee crisis is a big issue, and hence economic impact displaced a lot of people and this help from the UAE will help them sustain better throughout the pandemic.

The ERC also donated food aids to the country’s most vulnerable groups. For this, the Emirates Red Crescent collaborated with the Syrian Red Crescent Organization to provide for the Syrian people before the start of the Holy Month of Ramadan.

By providing covid-19 vaccines, the Red Crescent seeks to help the health sector of Syria so that it can help the process of curbing the coronavirus spread in the country while also regulating the infection rates in the neediest communities.

Earlier too, the Red Crescent has supported the Syrian society and had coordinated with the Syrian Red Crescent Organisation, and provided a medical aid shipment weighing 97.2 tonnes to the troubled country. The shipment had included medical supplies, personal protection equipment (PPE), and testing kits, to enhance the working of the healthcare sector.

The UAE has been sending aid to different countries and has been actively participating in volunteering on the ground to help the vulnerable sections of society. Ahead of Syria, it has also sent aid to Yemen, where the citation was already at its worst as the country was facing the worst humanitarian crisis in history.

In February, the UAE had directed $230m aid to Yemen ahead of the European call for help in the Yemen matter. Since 2015, the UAE has contributed over $6bn aid, which was aimed at benefiting the development program in the country.
