Emirates SkyCargo has achieved a major milestone with the global distribution of 600 million doses of COVID-19 on is its flights. Since the beginning of the initiatives in October 2020, the Emirates SkyCargo has delivered more than 2.8 million kilograms (2,800 tonnes) of COVID-19 vaccines from 35 origin regions to more than 80 destinations across the world.
Responding to the feat, Nabil Sultan, Divisional Senior Vice President, Cargo, Emirates, stated that the carrier has remained committed to the rapid distribution of the crucial COVID-19 vaccines to vulnerable communities around the world. Emirates SkyCargo designed its COVID-19 distribution strategy last year while prioritising the movement of Coronavirus vaccines through the Dubai hub to developing countries.
Sultan further announced that nearly two-thirds of the total vaccines transported by the airline were sent to multiple destinations in Africa, Asia and the Middle East.
"With our extensive reach across six continents, our wide-body capacity and expertise in cool chain logistics, Emirates SkyCargo will continue to be a reliable partner for the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines in the months to come," he added.
There has been a steady rise in demand for transportation of COVID-19 vaccines in the second half of 2021 due to the surging roll-out of vaccination and booster campaigns across global markets. In October and November 2021, Emirates SkyCargo transported over 200 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines, which accounts for one-third of the total COVID-19 vaccines transported by the carrier since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Every Emirates SkyCargo flight has carried a record 7 million COVID-19 vaccine doses to various regions in Asia (185 million doses), Africa (150 million doses) and the Middle East (70 million doses).
In addition, the GDP certified pharma terminal of Emirates SkyCargo in Chicago has managed the movement of more than 160 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines from the US to other countries around the world.
