Days after suspending flight services between the UAE and the UK, Emirates Airline on Monday issued fresh travel updates, allowing one-way flights from select UK cities to Dubai. As per the latest update, Emirates will be resuming one-way passenger flights from two UK cities-Manchester and London Heathrow to Dubai with effect from February 2.
“From 2 February 2021, we will operate passenger flights to Dubai from London Heathrow and Manchester,” the Dubai-based carrier said in its announcement.
In accordance with the directives issued by the UK government, Emirates had previously suspended its passenger services between Dubai and all UK points including Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow and London with effect from January 29, 2021.
With the resumption of its flight services, Emirates has also asked the passengers seeking to leave the UK to be aware of the travel rules and quarantine regulations in their destination countries.
“Customers seeking to leave the UK on these services should ensure that they are authorized to travel under the latest UK government rules, and meet the travel requirements of their final destination," the airline added.
The airline has urged the travellers looking to enter the UK to refer to the official website of the British government for latest information related to entry requirements and quarantine regulation on arrival.
Last week, the UK mission in the UAE posted a tweet on its social media handle announcing the travel ban that took effect from 1 pm UK time on January 29.
“You will not be able to fly directly to the UK from the UAE after this time,” the embassy said in its tweet.
According to UK's Transport Secretary Grant Shapps, UAE has been added to the travel alert list of the British government along with Burundi and Rwanda.
As per UK's travel guidelines, non-citizens have been barred from travelling to the UK from the UAE. Furthermore, British citizens will have to undergo a mandatory quarantine for 10 days on their arrival in the country. As the UK fights an unprecedented spike in Coronavirus cases, any exemption will not be applied in the current scenario, including travel for business purposes.
The British government took the decision to impose a travel ban from selected destinations in the aftermath of the emergence of a new Coronavirus strain.
Reportedly, from 1 pm on January 29, passengers who have been in or transited through the UAE, Burundi, or Rwanda in the last 10 days will not be granted access to the UK. However, this regulation will not include British and Irish nationals or third-country nationals having residence rights in the UK.
While they will be allowed to enter the UK, they will have to self-isolate themselves for 10 days at their home or in a hotel. "Test to Release" protocol under which passengers can exempt themselves from quarantine rules by showing a negative COVID-19 PCR test will not be applicable to these passengers coming from the UAE.
