The National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) Tuesday announced COVID-19 safety rules ahead of the celebrations of Eid Al Fitr. As per the latest protocols, authorities have encouraged UAE residents to avoid family visits and large gatherings during the blessed occasion of Eid Al Fitr. They have urged UAE residents to restrict Eid celebrations with members of the same family living in the same house.
Furthermore, in-person greetings and celebrations must be avoided. UAE's residents have been told to exchange greeting through electronic means of communication. Family members and neighbours must avoid giving gifts or sharing food with each other.
Authorities have also urged everyone to avoid the popular tradition of giving cash or exchanging gifts (Eidiya) with each other. If required, cash gifts can be transferred through electronic means such as bank transfers.
Eid is likely to be celebrated either on May 12 (Wednesday) or May 13 (Thursday) depending on the sighting of the crescent moon. This Eid Al Fitr, UAE residents could get up to five days off from the office. Earlier, the Federal Authority For Government Human Resources announced the Eid break would take place from Ramadan 29 to Shawwal 3.
These protocols have been issued by the NCEMA to ensure the health and safety of all community members amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
