A woman has been fined for $2,722 (AED 10,000) by the Dubai Police for violating existing COVID-19 precautionary norms against public gatherings. As per the police, the woman was fined for hosting a party with a musical band at her house. The music band was reportedly playing live music and the party guests were not wearing face masks or complying with social distancing measures.
Responding to the development, Brigadier Jamal Salem al-Jallaf, director of the General Department of Criminal Investigations at Dubai Police, said the fine was imposed on the violator as per resolution No. (38) for 2020 which states that a fine of AED10,000 is applicable to whoever invites or organises gatherings, meetings, private and public celebrations or is present in groups at public places or private farms.
He also confirmed that members of the music band playing at the house party and all guests were also fined for $1,361 (AED 5,000) each for their participation in the party.
This development has come a day after the Dubai Police arrested an Arab actress, identified by her initials M.H, for organising parties at two restaurants to mark her birthday. She further published videos of the parties on social media.
Amid the efforts to contain the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic in the region, Al-Jallaf reminded the public of the commitment of the authorities to impose a fine on anyone who will be seen violating the precautionary norms. He reiterated that the authorities will fine 10,000 dirhams as a punishment to anyone seen holding gatherings, meetings, private or public parties.
