Dubai Economy fines five sports establishments, warns six for violating COVID-19 precautions

The field inspection teams of the Commercial Compliance & Consumer Protection (CCCP) Sector and Dubai Economy have continued their efforts to contain the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic in the region. Dubai Economy teams, in coordination with the Dubai Sports Council, recently inspected various sports institutions and events and found five establishments in violation of the COVID-19 precautionary norms.

CCCP teams imposed fines on the five sports establishments for their failure in maintaining mandatory physical distancing measures and non-compliance to wearing face masks. In addition, the inspection teams issued warnings to six other sports establishments for flouting precautionary norms.

It is important to note that the inspections have achieved the desired results after the number of violators has significantly decreased. The inspection drive has achieved success in raising awareness among the public about the need to comply with all safety regulations amid the prevailing pandemic threat.

Meanwhile, the Council has urged all sports and training centres, academics and clubs in the Emirate to continue following the necessary safety guidelines and protocols that have been designed in accordance with the COVID-19 precautionary measures issued by Dubai's Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management and other relevant authorities.

The sports facilities have been directed to maintain a hygiene and sanitisation regime as mandated by the authorities which include keeping the premises clean and ensuring safe distance of 2-metre at all times. Among other safety protocols, the facilities have been instructed to make sure that staff members and visitors are wearing face masks, regular temperature checks are being carried out and sanitisers are provided at the entry, etc. The establishments have also been directed to display public announcements and awareness signage in highly visible areas. They are also required to maintain a proper record of their members, including their names telephone numbers and date of visits that will help in contact tracing if necessary.

The Dubai Economy has urged the public to cooperate and contribute to the efforts of the authorities to limit the spread of the virus by reporting any violation of precautionary norms via the Dubai Consumer app, or by calling 600545555, or by visiting the consumerrights.ae website.
