Dubai Economy, DSC fine six sports facilities for violating COVID-19 protocols

Dubai Economy and Dubai Sports Council inspection teams fined six sports establishments over the weekend for violating COVID-19 precautionary guidelines and safety measures. While carrying out regular inspections of sports facilities across Dubai, the teams fined these establishments for their failure to comply with mandatory face mask regulations and lack of commitment towards physical distancing at the premises. At the same time, ten other establishments were pardoned with a warning to follow the precautionary norms for the safety of the public.

Furthermore, the Council has called upon on all sports and training centres, clubs and academies across Dubai to adhere to the precautionary protocols and safety measures, adding that Dubai Economy and DSC teams will be carrying out more inspection visits in the coming days to ensure that establishments are fully complying with all mandatory COVID-19 safety protocols.

Before allowing the reopening of sports facilities in Dubai after months of COVID-19-induced lockdown, the Dubai Sports Council had issued a detailed list of mandatory protocols to be strictly followed by sports and fitness centres, clubs, and academics in the emirate to ensure the safety of the staff and visitors. These protocols were issued in accordance with the safety guidelines provided by Dubai’s Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management and other relevant authorities with the aim of ensuring maximum safety in the emirate.

In addition, the sports facilities have also been asked to maintain the highest standards of hygiene and sanitization requirements at their premises as mandated by the concerned authorities. These hygiene requirements will include ensuring a safe distance of 2-metres between individuals and maintaining a regular cleaning regime at all times.

Furthermore, the facilities have also been instructed to comply with other safety guidelines such as wearing masks all the time, regular temperature checks of visitors, and providing sanitisers at the entry and exit.

The establishments have been mandated to display public announcements and awareness signage around spaces that will be properly visible to the visitors to ensure public awareness. They are also required to maintain a proper record of their members, containing adequate details such as their names, telephone numbers and visit dates which will help the authorities in contact tracing when needed.
