The Department of Health-Abu Dhabi has joined a coalition to explore new cancer treatments and screening programmes with the aim of ensuring early detection and strengthening cancer care in the emirate as well as countries across the world.
The healthcare regulator has partnered with AstraZeneca’s Accelerating Change Together (ACT) for Cancer Care, to facilitate efforts to revolutionise early diagnosis and treatment globally.
The coalition was launched during Expo 2020 Dubai last month.
Noting that the price of cancer treatment and diagnosis methods continues to rise in the sector, the DoH is working towards promising more affordable cancer care through this collaboration.
The partnership will focus on the early detection of cancer using advanced technology and strengthen public awareness and understanding of precision medicine. It will involve genetics, environment and lifestyle, the authorities affirmed.
Speaking about the coalition, Dr Jamal Al Kaabi, undersecretary of the Department of Health-Abu Dhabi, underlined the need for prioritising solutions to offer best possible treatment and care to cancer patients who represent a “complex and ever-increasing burden on societies worldwide”.
“Building on the advanced healthcare infrastructure in Abu Dhabi, we will work with the ACT to identify the most advanced solutions for a more sustainable model of cancer care and improve patient outcomes," he added.
He underlined the DoH's continuous efforts to join forces with relevant leaders in the healthcare industry to adopt innovative solutions aimed at accelerating the diagnosis of chronic illnesses and advancement of relevant treatments.
Sameh El Fangary, AstraZeneca’s country president for the GCC and Pakistan, maintained that the pharma giant along with its partners will continue to work towards eliminating cancer from the world.
