DHA concludes project to enhance professional learning programmes

The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) has successfully completed its project to develop a global system for the accreditation of continuing professional development programmes. The project conducted in cooperation with the American Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME)has four stages.

DHA has emerged as the first health institution in the UAE to have completed this project with the aim of improving the quality of medical training programmes for health professionals in Dubai.

Underlining the significance of the project, Awadh Seghayer Al Ketbi, Director-General of DHA, said that it is line with the authority’s vision and its continuous efforts to enhance its collaborations with relevant global institutions. He further stressed the importance of keeping medical education up-to-date with the latest technologies and advancements in order to provide patients with the highest quality of medical care in the emirate.

Dr. Wadeia Muhammad Sharif, Director of Medical Education and Research Department (MERD) at the DHA, affirmed that the project was completed in partnership with ACCME to ensure high-quality training and continuous development of skills and professional knowledge of healthcare practitioners. The four phases of the project include reviewing and assessing DHA's effectiveness in accrediting continuous professional development programmes.

The third stage consisted of assessing the capabilities and competency management of the healthcare system's ability to meet the expectations of the new accreditation requirements. At the same time, the fourth stage included the development of a roadmap to manage training capabilities and competencies for the authority’s staff.

In conclusion, Graham McMahon, President and CEO of ACCME, expressed his joy in cooperation with the DHA to provide necessary support to enhance the accreditation system with international standards. The two entities also worked together to improve the quality of continuing professional development programmes for health professionals in the Emirate.

He further highlighted the importance of this partnership to achieve mutual goals and to provide crucial knowledge and expertise to facilitate the provision of optimal care for patients.
