Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) recently organized a workshop with the aim of reviewing and updating its 2022 strategy. The workshop saw the participation of DEWA MD & CEO Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer and other members of the top management team to facilitate update to its 2022 strategy in line with the ongoing developments across the country.
Addressing the keynote speech at the workshop, Al Tayer noted that updating DEWA's strategic plan is significantly important this year in view of the UAE's Golden Jubilee celebration and Expo 2020 Dubai taking place for the first time in the region.
He thanked the vision and directives of the UAE's wise leadership that helped the country in successfully handling the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The UAE has become one of the fastest countries in the world to efficiently manage the pandemic. He further lauded the Dubai Government for demonstrating resilience and ability in keeping pace with the ongoing changes and developments to ensure the continuity of work amid the prevailing challenges and efficiently overcome the crisis.
"Drawing on lessons learned from the latest events, DEWA has succeeded in aligning its operations and strategy to address the challenges posed by the pandemic and transform them into opportunities, as well as prepare for the next phase by developing plans and insights to build new foundations and work mechanisms," he added.
Al Tayer explained that the regular review of DEWA’s strategy is necessary to ensure its contributions to increasing competitiveness and excellence to shape the future along with developing long-term, proactive plans to support the governance of future. He expressed DEWA's commitment to regularly updating its strategic plan in alignment with developments in the government's plans and strategies. Some of the plans include the UAE Centennial 2071, the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, and the UAE Strategy for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Al Tayer thanked all divisions for their efforts in recent period, urging them to continue the journey to excellence and promoting DEWA’s role in enabling a brighter and more sustainable future.
"This will support the realisation of the vision of the wise leadership to make the 'Year of the 50th' a starting point for another fifty years of progress and prosperity," he said in conclusion.
In addition, Khawla Al Mehairi, Executive Vice President of Strategy and Government Communications at DEWA, underlined that strategic planning is a key pillar for DEWA to ensure its preparedness for the future and achieve its vision to become a globally leading sustainable innovative corporation.
"At DEWA, we use the latest strategic planning tools, including third-generation Balanced Scorecards and outlining performance indicators and smart objectives to measure efficiency and reliability. This ensures effective execution and continuous improvement of plans to improve work mechanisms to the highest international standards," Al Mehairi added.
