DCD commends non-Muslim communities for aiding effective implementation of ‘Choose to Vaccinate’ campaign

On Saturday, Abu Dhabi’s Department of Community Development (DCD) held a virtual meeting with heads of different non-Muslim religious institutions and social communities lauding them for their support towards the government’s Covid-19 preventive measures. During the online meet, one of the key issue raised by DCD was the role of these organisations played in the emirates’ national-wide recovery campaign associated with the COVID-19 vaccination drive and effective implementation of preventive measures.

During the virtual event, Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Chairman of DCD, commended the non-Muslim communities for helping the government in its ‘Choose to Vaccinate’ campaign. While expressing his gratitude towards religious and social leaders, he highlighted the importance of social integration and cohesion in Abu Dhabi for the success of the campaign.

The campaign was organised by Abu Dhabi health authorities in line with the UAE’s Covid-19 preventive measures guideline to combat the virus and to ensure the safety and health of all the communities residing in the country. Dr. Kahili added that with the coming together of different communities towards a common goal, was what made UAE one of the nations with the best COVID-19 response.

In his speech, Al Khaili said: "You are an essential part of our society. As such, we will work with you side by side, collaborate and listen to your needs. The Department is committed to helping you and your families have a decent life. We are also happy by the positive response of religious leaders in Abu Dhabi. You have set an example to your parishioners by being among the first to take the vaccine and, afterwards, encouraging them to do the same for their protection. This demonstrates the spirit of unity, cohesion and full confidence in the UAE’s efforts to fight COVID-19. It also reflects the willingness of all concerned parties to cooperate and take the advanced steps necessary to efficiently help address the crisis to bring life back to normal."

The DCD Chairman added: "Through an integrated recovery plan, the UAE has been tireless in its efforts to be among the first countries to obtain the vaccine. The country’s senior officials were also the first to get vaccinated, sending a message to everyone about the vaccine’s safety and efficacy."

The local communities of the nation played a significant role in battling the pandemic as they also formed teams of medical volunteers to support the country’s front line medical army.
