The UAE on July 6 sent an aid plane to Brazil carrying over 12 metric tonnes of medical supplies and COVID-19 testing kits in a bid to support the country's efforts in tackling the spread of COVID-19 pandemic. The medical supplies and testing kits will assist approximately 12,000 healthcare professionals in their continuous efforts in containing the virus.
Responding to the aid delivery, Saeed Abdullah Mohammed Al Shehhi, Chargé d'Affairs of the UAE Embassy in Brazil, said that Brazil is one of the crucial cornerstones of UAE’s strategy to boost bilateral relations with South American countries.
"Brazil forms an important cornerstone of the UAE’s strategy to strengthen and deepen relations with South American nations while building bridges of cooperation on various fronts," Al Shehhi said.
He further asserted that the UAE hopes that this assistance will boost the capacity of Brazil's healthcare professionals and will provide them protection as they fight against the pandemic.
According to the state news agency WAM, the UAE has provided over 1,039 metric tons of medical and food supplies to more than 70 countries till date as part of its international humanitarian assistance in response to the COVID-19 crisis, These supplies have supported more than 1 million medical professionals across the world in the process.
