COVID-19: UAE announces travel ban for unvaccinated nationals

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC) has announced a travel ban on Emiratis who are not fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with effect from January 10.

As per the latest announcement, fully vaccinated Emiratis are allowed to travel only if they have received a booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The ministry has also shared the details of travel requirements for vaccinated Emiratis along with exemptions.

 

Travel checklist

· Emiratis are required to have a ‘Travel Pass’ on their AlHosn app

· It is important for the Emiratis to be fully vaccinated with two doses of a UAE-approved COVID-19 vaccine. In addition, they are required to have the booster dose of vaccine.

 

Exemptions

· Emiratis who are medically exempted from taking the COVID-19 vaccine

· People who have recovered from COVID-19 and travelling within three months of recovery

· Emiratis under the age of 18 years

· Those with valid exemption on the AlHosn app.

 

Earlier, UAE authorities announced that humanitarian cases and people travelling for medical and treatment purposes are also exempted from travel ban. Furthermore, special cases and individuals mourning the death of a first-degree relative can gain a travel permit by contacting the ministry at 800-444-44.

Meanwhile, UAE authorities have stressed the importance of taking vaccination against COVID-19 as well as booster doses to protect the health and wellbeing of all community members during international travel.
