The UAE on Wednesday dispatched a second aid plane to Costa Rica to support the country's effort to combat the Coronavirus pandemic. The shipment consisted of 12 metric tonnes of essential medical supplies and COVID-19 testing kits, aimed at assisting approximately 12,000 healthcare professionals in Costa Rica who are continuously working at the frontline to contain the spread of the virus.
Responding to the aid delivery, Juma Al Rumaithi, UAE Ambassador to Costa Rica, asserted that the second medical aid plane sent by the UAE to Costa Rica is aimed at strengthening the outstanding bilateral relations between the two countries. The medical aid supplies will boost the efforts of the Costa Rican healthcare sector in the fight against COVID-19.
He further added that the UAE had sent the first aid plane carrying 8.5 metric tonnes of emergency medical supplies earlier in June 2020 to support the healthcare workers in Costa Rica and provide them with additional protection as they continue to work towards containing the pandemic in the country.
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak, the UAE has provided more than 1510 metric tonnes of medical supplies and food aid to almost 118 countries across the world as part of their humanitarian efforts in the global fight against the pandemic. These medical supplies have supported more than 1.5 million medical professionals in the process.
