UAE sends medical aid to Russia's Dagestan in fight against COVID-19

The United Arab Emirates on June 3 provided nine metric tonnes of medical supplies to the Russia's Republic of Dagestan through an aid plane, in a bid to support the administration's fight in curbing the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. As per a statement by the state news agency WAM, UAE's medical aid will assist the efforts of approximately 9,000 medical professionals in Dagestan as they grapple with the global health emergency.

Speaking in the matter, the UAE Ambassador to Russia, MaadhadHareb Jaber Alkhayeli, asserted that Russia has been and will remain a key partner to the Emirates on various fronts including political, cultural and economic. He stated that with the delivery of medical supplies to the Dagestan city, the Emirates has affirmed the country's commitment to working alongside Russia's leadership and medical workers who are at the frontline to overcome the pandemic circumstances.

"When challenging circumstances arise, such partnerships become more important than ever in strengthening ties of solidarity and extending lifesaving assistance around the world," the UAE Ambassador to Russia added.

Earlier on June 1, the Emirates had sent a shipment carrying eight tonnes of medical supplies to Russia's Grozny city, which will be supporting almost 8,000 medical professionals in the Coronavirus battle. With over 4,30,000 cases across various parts of the country, Russia's nationwide tally of Coronavirus infections is the third highest in the world.

According to the statement, the UAE has so far provided more than 701 metric tons of medical aid and essential supplies to over 60 countries worldwide, extending its humanitarian support to the global fight against health crises. The aid will be supporting more than 701,000 medical professionals across the world in the pandemic fight.
