COVID-19 response: ERC sends essential medical supplies to Syria's Damascus
The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) has sent an aid plane containing medical supplies to Damascus in coordination with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent. The medical aid supply is aimed at helping the Syrian government in mitigating the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and supporting the country's medical sector in containing the spread of the virus.
Responding to the delivery, Dr. Mohammed Ateeq Al Falahi, Secretary-General of the ERC, said that the aircraft contained adequate quantities of medicines and medical supplies and equipment to assist the efforts of thousands of healthcare workers working at the forefront to combat the pandemic in the country.
The aid supply is a part of various initiatives launched by the ERC in accordance with the directives of the UAE leadership. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the ERC, has been monitoring all initiatives launched by the organisation for the greater good of the society. Al Falahi further highlighted that the ERC dispatched the aid shipment to Damascus in partnership with its Syrian counterpart as part of the framework of their joint cooperation.
Al Falahi said that the medical aid shipment contains basic supplies such as face masks and PPE kits which are necessary to follow precautionary and preventive measures aimed at confronting COVID-19 virus, adding that it will support the front-line medical staff in their efforts to contain the virus in Syria.

At the same time, the UAE has also provided aid and assistance to boost the health capacities of various countries in their battle against the pandemic.
