The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has recently announced that all eligible taxi and public transport drivers across Dubai have received the COVID-19 vaccine as part of the national vaccination drive aimed at combatting the pandemic. As per reports, more than 20,000 drivers have been inoculated against the COVID-19 vaccine so far.
After drivers, the RTA is going to provide COVID-19 vaccination to frontliners and employees of various agencies and sectors of the authority.
Speaking over the development, Nada Jasim, Director of Safety, Risk, Regulation and Planning, Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector at RTA, stated that the Authority launched the campaign by apprising the drivers about the pandemic situation and encouraging them to take the vaccine doses provided at specialist health centers.
He added that the RTA has set up two internal centers in collaboration with the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and other relevant authorities. One of the two centers has been established to vaccinate taxi and bus drivers starting from January 19 to March 2021, while the second center is aimed at vaccinating other employees beginning February 3.
Nada Jasim further affirmed that at least 40,000 vaccine doses have been given to various sections of society, including drivers, front-end staff, metro and tram operators, parking inspectors, and other employees along with their family members willing to receive the vaccine.
As of now, the DHA is administering three types of vaccines to all sections of society across Dubai.
