In line with the ongoing national vaccination campaign, the UAE has vaccinated almost 58 percent of elderly residents against the COVID-19 virus.
As per an announcement made by the Abu Dhabi Media Office on Wednesday, 57.66 percent of the elderly population in the UAE have received the vaccine in order to protect themselves and the community from COVID-19.
In the coming weeks, the UAE authorities will continue to prioritize senior citizens and residents to participate in the vaccination drive, along with People of Determination and those with chronic illnesses with the broader aim of combating the pandemic crisis, the Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre said.
The Abu Dhabi Media Office has reiterated its appeal to the elderly, people with chronic illnesses, and People of Determination to visit any vaccination center across the region without prior booking to receive the vaccine.
While COVID-19 vaccination is voluntary in the UAE, the Government is making all possible efforts to vaccinate 50 percent of the population against the disease till March 2021.
As per an announcement made by health authorities on February 7, the first doses of the COVID-19 vaccines were initially made available only for priority groups for a period of six weeks. But, members of the community who are yet to get their second dose of the vaccine can also receive it during this period.
Amid the ongoing efforts, UAE authorities are continuously encouraging people to get vaccinated as part of the Choose to Vaccinate campaign.
