Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region, attended the international emergency exercise ConvEx-3 'Barakah UAE' at the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant on Tuesday.

 

The 'Barakah UAE' exercise conducted by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is participated by 75 countries, 12 international organizations, 10 local authorities and 700 participants. The exercise is implemented by field teams, operational centers and monitoring and evaluation committees.

 

The National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) declared that all UAE’s operation centres are completely prepared and have been activated in line with the international emergency exercise to assess UAE’s emergency response and readiness to all nuclear and radioactivity risks.

 

The exercise is part of ongoing efforts to make nations prepared and ensure their strengthened response as per the international standards, in line with international emergency preparedness agreements.

 

The exercise also seeks to test the UAE’s preparedness, early response and notification capabilities in incidents of nuclear or radiological emergencies. The exercise highlights the UAE’s integrated monitoring, operation, and response system in the field, additionally confirming that its Peaceful Nuclear Energy Programme affiliates with international and IAEA standards.
