The 6th Ajman International Environment Conference 2022 concluded on March 31 with various discussions and recommendations on climate change.
Speaking about the conference, Khaled Moeen Al Hosani, Executive Director of the Public Health and Environment Sector at the Municipality and Planning Department in Ajman, said that the most prominent objective of the event included supporting sustainable developments in the United Arab Emirates, developing a roadmap to achieve carbon neutrality, collaborating with scientists, professionals and policymakers from international and national organizations and academic institutions and to share knowledge and expertise about creating a sustainable environment.
The conference also updated the participants on the latest artificial intelligence techniques to achieve sustainable development as well as expectations of 2071. At the same time, the conference explored key factors and practices to achieve green energy and air quality.
The Emirate of Ajman has ensured the enactment of legislation that supports renewable energy for new buildings, industrial facilities and environmentally-friendly means of transportation such as electric and hybrid cars in order to reduce carbon emissions and the impact of global warming.
Experts also stressed the importance of extending support to the strategy for the year 2050 to produce 50% of the total energy clean in accordance with local and international responsibility.
Experts and participants drew attention to global and local levels where climate change constitutes concerning issues such as environmental, economic and social, noting that the focus must be turned towards renewable and clean energy sources.
In this regard, the conference called for the implementation of environmental policies and increasing energy efficiency with the aim of enhancing the production of renewable and clean energy.
Some of the most prominent recommendations included the launch of the Ajman Satellite and boosting of ties with competent Space Authorities.
The conference also focused on strengthening the partnership between the educational sector, the government and private sectors to expand training and job opportunities in artificial intelligence and future energy. The main objective is to develop circular economy policies in the Emirate of Ajman as well as for government agencies to achieve environmental sustainability.
The participants discussed the need for developing a policy for hydrogen and environmentally-friendly vehicles to be openly adopted in the Emirate of Ajman. Moreover, plans to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and combining different technologies such as mechanical maps, remote sensing drones and artificial intelligence to measure environmental elements with high accuracy were also discussed.
Experts called for investing in the latest artificial intelligence techniques and reliance on data analysis. Using artificial intelligence can help in increasing government performance and accelerating advancements in transportation, health, space, renewable energy, water, education and environmental practices through various initiatives and workshops.
The conference organised awareness meetings to support the Emirates Energy Strategy 2050 and create a balance between economic requirements and environmental goals. The Emirates Roadmap for Hydrogen is aimed at strengthening UAE's pioneering position in low-carbon hydrogen along with stressing the importance and need for cooperation and hardwork to limit carbon emissions that have negative impacts on the environment.
The United Arab Emirates is one of the leading countries in the world to continuously working towards addressing the environmental challenges looming upon the world and raising awareness among the international communities about the extent of climate crisis problem.
In this regard, the conference underlined the need for:
· Supporting scientific studies and modern technology to mitigate the effects of climate change.
· Enhancing waste management to achieve a waste-free environment.
· Supporting the implementation of effective solutions as suggested by experts to combat climate change impact and integrate them with the latest initiatives of the national strategy for Climate Neutral 2050.
· Joining the Global Methane Pledge and benefitting from its position as one of the lowest methane emitters in the world.
In conclusion, the conference aims to continue serving the United Arab Emirates' goals to mitigate climate change impact and to keep pace with global developments in international forums concerning renewable energy and green buildings.
