The Abu Dhabi Health Services Company started the initiative in 2020 in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

As per the report, the Abu Dhabi health provider accepted through a declaration that they were also responsible for delivering 450,000 telemedicine prescriptions with the help of Telemedicine Virtual Outpatient Clinic service since the start of April last year.

After its success, Seha has made it a permanent initiative that is aimed at enhancing patients' experience so that it can also accommodate more outpatients. This initiative also includes video consultations.

As per the same report, the 400,000 consultations accounted for nine percent of Seha’s total outpatient consultations since April 2020 while ten percent of the telemedicine prescriptions accounted for all the outpatient prescriptions.

Dr. Marwan Al Kaabi, who is the acting group chief operations officer at Seha, also said that digital medium was used to enhance the consultation service and cater to patients and monitor their health. “Since the launch of our virtual consultations, we saw digital engagement tools emerge as a popular method for patients to manage their health,” he added.

He said that he is proud that since last year, the initiative has been successful in handling the patients and has also ensured continued care in curing the patients while also printing to stay connected for seamless service. “In the UAE, the population is predominantly younger and very much ‘switched on’ with multiple smart devices per household,” Al Kaabi added.

Seha has also recorded an 83 percent satisfaction rate for this virtual service. A lot of factors were involved in this through which acceptance and uptake of telemedicine was made possible for the patients and due to this further safety was provided to help maintain social distancing, said Dr. Asma Abdulla Al Marzouqi, division chief for pediatric medical affairs at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, a Seha facility.
