Abu Dhabi authorities have cracked down on 39 social gatherings in the city since the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan. In view of the COVID-19 pandemic, large gatherings, parties and social events have been suspended across the UAE to limit the spread of the virus.
On Sunday, the Abu Dhabi Police said the hosts and guests of the busted gatherings have been referred to the Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Prosecution for legal action. The police also noted that it is illegal to invite people for Iftar or other meals and host Ramadan celebrations at home or farms in the UAE. The authorities imposed precautionary measures to curtail the spread of the COVID-19 virus in the country during Ramadan.
"People should continue committing themselves to following COVID-19 safety protocols, including avoiding Ramadan gatherings,” the Abu Dhabi police said.
While it is customary for family and friends to gather for Iftar during the holy month, the Abu Dhabi authorities have prohibited Ramadan parties to prevent virus transmission. As per the rules, a fine of Dh10,000 will be imposed on hosts of the gathering and attendees will be fined Dh5,000 each.
The police stressed that organising gatherings put public health at risk. The police further called on residents to follow all COVID-19 guidelines and safety measures to protect themselves and others from the disease. To report any gatherings or other COVID-19 violations, residents must call on the toll-free number 8002626 or send a text message to 2828 or email at [email protected]. They can also report any COVID-19 violations to the Public Prosecution through their safe community app.
