As the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic continues in the UAE, the number of Coronavirus positive cases has dipped to less than 1% in the Abu Dhabi city. The emirate's Emergency, Crisis & Disaster Committee on Sunday announced that the rate of COVID-19 confirmed cases has reduced to less than 1% in Abu Dhabi city with the help of the National Screening Programme.
As per reports, more than 3,80,000 people have been tested for the virus across the capital during the National Screening Programme in the month of June itself, following which the number of positive cases fell below one in every 100 people tested.
According to a tweet posted by the Abu Dhabi Media Office, testing will be ramped up in Al Ain and Al Dhafra regions of the Emirate over the next 14 days to reach a similar rate and to ensure that rate of confirmed cases reduces across all regions through the sterilisation drive.
Through the National Screening Programme, the authorities are able to conduct mass testing across high density areas in the emirate in a bid to curb the spread of the novel Coronavirus. To achieve the target on time, the authorities and the Department of Health have asked the public to remain cooperative and cautious.
"Abu Dhabi authorities will continue testing campaign and apply the highest precautionary and preventive measures. It requests the public to remain cautious and cooperative, to maintain gained achievements and protect public health," said the authority.
Meanwhile, the Abu Dhabi authorities have extended the restrictions on travel movement in and out of the emirate for the third week starting June 23, for the smooth functioning of the National Screening Programme. However, some relief in restrictions has been given allowing free movement of residents between the Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafrah regions. Movement restrictions on entering and exiting the emirate were initially put in place on June 2 to assist in mass Covid-19 testing.
Ever since the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic in the UAE, the authorities have focused on high testing rates with more than 2.5 million people being tested across the country at various medical centres, and screening facilities.
The UAE has reported over 44,900 cases so far, out of whom more than 32,000 people have recovered from the disease.
