In a bid to intensify efforts against the transmission of the Coronavirus outbreak, the Crisis and Emergency Management Committee in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, in partnership with the Department of Health, has announced the use of laser-based DPI (Diffractive Phase Interferometry) technology to detect suspected cases of COVID-19 of people who wish to enter the emirate.
According to the committee, people seeking to enter Abu Dhabi can perform a DPI laser test for COVID-19 disease at the specified entry points. People with negative test results will be allowed to enter the emirate, while those with a positive scan result will undergo PCR nose scans at the same place to detect the COVID-19 virus and avoid any delays. Meanwhile, people presenting a negative result for COVID-19 examination which was conducted within 48 hours of the test result will be allowed entry in the emirate.
A statement released by the Abu Dhabi Media Office on Tuesday said: "Travellers to the Emirate of Abu Dhabi can be screened for COVID-19 upon entry by a laser-based DPI technique. A negative result will allow entry to Abu Dhabi, while a positive result will lead to further testing through a PCR test."
At the same time, the committee has laid emphasis that the people to plan ahead of conduct virus tests in advance of traveling to Abu Dhabi to avoid any possible delays or traffic congestions.
The DPI technology is based on laser technology using blood samples for examining the virus. It allows the authorities to carry out large-scale screening within a few seconds. It serves as a first step to detect suspected cases of infections before they undergo a PCR (swab) tests.
Last week, Abu Dhabi authorities made it compulsory for people willing to enter the emirate to take a COVID-19 test within 48 hours of travel.
