78% of UAE population is vaccinated against Covid-19

Covid-19 vaccine, booster dose

The national vaccination campaign initiated by the UAE is onwards to achieve its goals. Over 78.11% of the total eligible population of over 16 years of age has been vaccinated. The revelation was made on Tuesday during the weekly briefing on the Covid-19 pandemic situation in the UAE.

Furthermore, 84.59% of the people over 60 years have been vaccinated. This is also the priority group as they are more vulnerable to get infected.

“As part of the proactive strategy to provide maximum protection for society, we emphasize that the priority to administer the booster dose of the vaccine will be for the elderly and people with chronic diseases at the first stage,” official said during the briefing. “That is because they are more susceptible to get infected, this comes in-line with the announcement made by many countries about the importance of the booster dose,” he added.

The booster dose is an additional booster vaccine given after the basic doses are administered. This stimulates and strengthens immunity against the virus. Booster dose is to be given on priority to the elderly and people with chronic diseases amid rise and spread of new variants of coronavirus. People will be assessed by the health authorities to ensure they are fit in requirements to get the booster dose. These assessments will be made through advance appointments.
